Rand Timmerman

Retired Attorney, Author & Adventurer

“I was taught at a very young age that I could cope with life and deal with almost anything – one step at a time.”

Rand Timmerman, retired attorney, author, and adventurer, spent his professional career as an attorney, but one of the most defining chapters of his life began after retirement. A recovered alcoholic with a deep appreciation for faith, perseverance, and personal growth, Rand set out at the age of 72 to hike the entire 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail alongside his younger brother, Ron, who was 71.

Their remarkable journey became far more than a physical challenge. As they crossed fourteen states from Georgia to Maine, the brothers faced rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, injuries, and exhaustion. Along the way, they also confronted far more personal mountains. Rand reflected on his lifelong recovery from alcoholism, while Ron carried the grief of losing his beloved wife. Together, they discovered that some of life's greatest victories come not from reaching the summit, but from continuing to put one foot in front of the other.

Rand shares this extraordinary experience in his book, A Spiritual Passage, a beautifully illustrated account featuring more than 500 photographs from the trail. More than a travel memoir, the book is an inspiring story of resilience, healing, faith, and the belief that it is never too late to pursue a dream or embrace a new adventure.

Whether he's speaking about recovery, aging with purpose, overcoming life's setbacks, or finding unexpected spiritual lessons in the wilderness, Rand encourages others to keep growing, keep exploring, and never give up before the miracle happens.
